Hi, my name is Liz Dixon.
Being creative is good for the soul. I’ve spent some of my career in the corporate world and some as a florist in the local community and, for me, creating beautiful things for real people at the most emotional moments in their lives is way more rewarding than meeting business deadlines in the back office of a bank HQ.
But I like variety. Hence the varied career, the numerous cities I’ve called home (although now back in Liverpool where where I belong) and the range of crafts I’ll have a go at, picking up some skills along the way but mastering none!
I also hate waste and I’m saddened by people’s obsession with buying new things just because they are cheap and then throwing them away without a thought for the impact. I like to pick up old items and breathe new life into them. Every one of the projects I share with you will genuinely contain something that’s been salvaged.
When I first launched Salvage Box I hid behind a fictional character, Jenny McKendrick. Not only did you get a new creative project each week, but there was also a story about Jenny and the people around her – a sort of soap opera in 100 instalments. Jenny’s still there in those old episodes but episode 101 onwards is hosted by me. I’ve even been brave enough to add a couple of photos!
I hope you enjoy it.
